Passenger numbers at ESWE Verkehr up again
Passenger numbers at ESWE Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH rose again in the past financial year. In 2025, around 59.1 million people will use the service, compared to around 58.5 million in 2024.
“The rising passenger numbers over several consecutive years show that we are on the right track. More and more residents of Wiesbaden are choosing to use public transportation,” says Managing Director Marion Hebding. “We see this as a sign of confidence in our services and the work of our employees,” Hebding adds.
With approximately 66,000 subscriptions, the number of tickets sold remained at a consistently high level in 2025. Subscriptions include the Deutschland-Ticket, the Job-Ticket, the Hessenpass mobil, as well as student and senior tickets.
Transportation volume also increased slightly. ESWE Verkehr covered approximately 12.8 million vehicle-kilometers in 2025. In addition to regular service, more than 315,000 passengers used the Nerobergbahn, setting a new record.
To meet rising demand, ESWE Verkehr is strategically expanding its services to be prepared for further increases in passenger numbers in the future. This includes investing in the expansion of its modern fleet and continuously optimizing its service offerings. For example, the schedule was recently adjusted in specific areas in response to feedback from drivers and requests from passengers.
A comprehensive network overhaul is planned for 2027. The entire route network will be restructured to speed up connections and significantly increase efficiency. The new route network is expected to better accommodate the projected continued growth in passenger volume in the future.
