Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Reception for runners-up in the world championship

Mayor and Head of the Sports Department Gert-Uwe Mende welcomed the Wiesbaden Phantoms cheerleaders to City Hall on Thursday, April 23. At the World Championships in Takasaki, Japan, the "Phantastics" won silver for Germany in the "Senior Cheerleading All Female" category. Japan won gold.

At the reception, the cheerleaders also signed the sports honor roll of the state capital, Wiesbaden, in which outstanding athletes are invited to record their special achievements, such as gold medals at international championships or world championship titles.

As German champions, the cheerleaders, under coach Gina Klinkhammer, had qualified for the World Championships and also secured the European championship title during their preparations.

To mark this success, the mayor congratulated the team: “I am very pleased that the ‘Phantastics’ have represented Wiesbaden so excellently through their athletic achievements. We are proud of you and congratulate you on winning the silver medal. Congratulations. You are all wonderful athletic ambassadors for our city,” said Mende. “Cheerleading is a versatile team sport that combines elements of acrobatics, floor gymnastics, and dance, and has long since developed into a competitive discipline in its own right.”
