Protest day for the equality of people with disabilities
On Tuesday, May 5, another day of protest for equality for people with disabilities will take place in Wiesbaden at the town hall.
The event will take place inside and outside City Hall, Schlossplatz 6, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free. For the program and further information, visit www.wiesbaden.de/protesttag-gleichstellung (opens in a new tab).
The state capital of Wiesbaden, together with AK Inklusion Wiesbaden and the Wiesbaden Expert Council, is organizing this year’s Day of Protest for the Equality of People with Disabilities—supported by Aktion Mensch. This year’s focus is “Getting Around—on Public Transportation, Streets, and Sidewalks.” The Day of Action highlights barriers in everyday life while also providing impetus for concrete improvements in Wiesbaden. The goal is to design mobility in such a way that it is naturally accessible to everyone. A special highlight of the program is the keynote address by Andreas Winkel, the Hessian State Commissioner for People with Disabilities. He will present key perspectives on barrier-free mobility and equal participation in public spaces.
Program:
2:45 p.m. in front of City Hall: Flash mob by the Wiesbaden School of Music and Art (WMK)
3:00–6:00 p.m. Information booths and art exhibition in the City Hall foyer: Initiatives, projects, and artistic contributions on the theme of inclusion and participation invite visitors to engage in discussion and exchange.
3:00 p.m. Opening remarks, music, and panel discussion in the ballroom: Musical performances, opening remarks, and dialogue between citizens, advocacy groups, specialized agencies, and decision-makers on the topic “Barrier-Free Travel – Focus on Mobility.”
6:00 p.m. Benefit concert at the Kulturforum, Friedrichstr. 16: Under the motto “Children play for children,” students from the WMK will present a varied concert evening to benefit UNICEF.
Since 1992, nationwide events have been held on May 5 to mark the European Day of Protest for the Equality of People with Disabilities. Inclusion is a human right, as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) more than 15 years ago.
Further information about the Day of Protest is available from the municipal inclusion officer of the state capital of Wiesbaden, inklusionsbeauftragtewiesbadende, phone (0611) 315896.
