Acute Fire Hazard in Cemeteries
The Parks and Recreation Department urges all cemetery visitors to refrain from lighting candles and from any careless handling of open flames or cigarette butts in the cemeteries. Due to the ongoing drought and the current highest forest fire alert level, there is also an acute fire hazard at the cemeteries in Wiesbaden.
The ground, plants, shrubs, and trees are extremely dry. Under current conditions, even the smallest source of ignition can start a fire and cause it to spread rapidly. The Parks Department therefore asks that you exercise extreme caution. Even a carelessly discarded or not completely extinguished cigarette can ignite dry grass, leaves, or other plant debris.
Fire departments are under significant strain due to the current weather and risk conditions. Every preventable fire call should therefore be avoided.
The Cemetery Division of the Parks and Recreation Department manages a total of 21 cemeteries within the city limits.
