At 11:00 a.m., the sirens will sound a one-minute, rising and falling wailing tone as a test to alert the public. At 11:45 a.m., the all-clear will be signaled with a one-minute continuous tone. No response from the public is required during the siren test; it is purely an awareness-raising measure.

The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will also centrally trigger a test alert for all warning apps in Germany. The Modular Warning System (MoWaS) will control the warning apps NINA, Katwarn, and hessenWarn. Cell broadcast will also be used. To this end, a test alert message will be sent to cell phones nationwide. This message will appear on all devices registered to a cell tower that are capable of receiving cell broadcast messages. Service providers will inform cell phone users about this by the Warning Day.

Warning Day is a joint initiative involving the federal government, the states, and participating counties, cities, and municipalities. On this day, they will test the technical infrastructure for warnings. The explicit goal is to identify vulnerabilities and subsequently eliminate them. This will make the system more stable and effective in the event of an emergency. Another goal is to inform people about the various warning methods and raise awareness of civil protection.
