Guided Tour of the Special Exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Pitcher to Goldgasse”
The City Museum on the Market Square is hosting a public guided tour of the special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Jug to Gold Lane” on Sunday, August 23, at 11:30 a.m.
Who was Christian Dell, and why is he considered one of the most important designers of the 20th century? This guided tour offers an overview of the life and work of this versatile designer—from his early days as a silversmith, through his time as a master craftsman at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, to his famous lamp designs in the “Kaiser Idell” series. In addition, participants will learn more about Dell’s connection to Wiesbaden—which remained largely unknown for decades—where he lived after World War II and ran a shop for design, art, and jewelry on Goldgasse.
Through selected exhibits, the tour demonstrates how Christian Dell combined precision craftsmanship, functional design, and the use of new materials. The exhibition brings together numerous national and international loans for this purpose and offers new insights into the work of a designer whose creations continue to set standards to this day.
The public guided tour lasts about one hour. Cost: 6 euros, 4 euros (reduced rate), plus a 4-euro tour fee. Registration is not required, but participation is limited.
