Pensions, Housing, Retirement Planning: Information Session on the Life Stage Known as (Un)Retirement
For many people, the transition to retirement marks a new chapter in life full of opportunities—but at the same time, it often raises very practical questions: Will my pension be enough? What support services are available? How can I maintain an independent life in my own home for as long as possible? And where can I find information on retirement planning, long-term care, or volunteering?
Answers to these questions will be provided at the informational event “Life Stage: (Non-)Retirement—What Now?”, which will take place on Monday, September 7, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Wiesbaden City Hall, Schlossplatz 6. The event is aimed in particular at people who are about to retire or are already retired, as well as their family members.
“Retirement is much more than the end of one’s working life—it marks the beginning of a new phase of life. Many people are looking for guidance, reliable information, and personal points of contact. That is exactly what we aim to provide with this event: accessible, one-stop counseling so that older adults in Wiesbaden can shape their own paths in a self-determined and well-informed manner,” explains Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Social Affairs Department.
At various information booths, experts will provide individualized and free advice on topics such as retirement benefits, housing assistance, basic income support, powers of attorney for healthcare, long-term care services, housing for seniors, and volunteer work. Participants include the Housing Allowance Authority, the Guardianship Authority, the counseling centers for independent living in old age, the Open Senior Services, BelleWi, the Wiesbaden Volunteer Center, the German Pension Insurance of Hesse, as well as the Social Assistance and Long-Term Care Assistance departments.
At the start of the two sessions—at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.—the participating organizations will each give a brief presentation in the City Council Chamber. Afterward, there will be an opportunity for personal discussions and individual counseling at the information booths.
The event is a collaboration between the Office for Social Work, the Social Benefits and Job Center, the German Pension Insurance of Hesse, and the Wiesbaden Volunteer Center. Admission is free; registration is not required.
