Mayor Mende Presents a Fire Truck to the Sonnenberg Volunteer Fire Department
On Saturday, August 29, Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende officially handed over a new fire truck to the Sonnenberg Volunteer Fire Department.
Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende said at the handover ceremony: “With this new fire truck, the state capital of Wiesbaden is sustainably strengthening the operational capabilities of the Sonnenberg Volunteer Fire Department. The modern equipment, the supplementary equipment packages, and the all-wheel drive enable a wide range of operations, from firefighting to storm response to wildland fire suppression. Our emergency responders do outstanding work every day—whether responding to fires, providing technical assistance, or handling medical emergencies. To ensure they can continue to fulfill their demanding duties in the future, they need the most modern equipment. We are happy to support the volunteer efforts of the volunteer fire departments.”
The event served as an opportunity to once again thank all volunteer fire departments for their dedication, which has been particularly challenging in recent weeks due to the wildfires.
The LF 10 was procured as part of the State of Hesse’s procurement program. The vehicle is part of the ongoing modernization of the vehicle fleet of the volunteer fire departments in the state capital of Wiesbaden. The LF 10 firefighting vehicle can accommodate a crew of nine firefighters. It is equipped with all-wheel drive for excellent off-road capability and versatile operational use. The water tank holds 1,200 liters. The grant from the Ministry of the Interior amounts to approximately 65,000 euros. The state capital of Wiesbaden contributed approximately 385,000 euros. The total cost amounts to 451,000 euros.
