RheinMain CongressCenter Generates More of Its Own Green Electricity
The RheinMain CongressCenter (RMCC) will generate more green electricity on its own in the future: The existing photovoltaic system on the roofs of the convention halls is being expanded. As a result, the RMCC’s calculated self-sufficiency rate for electricity will more than double to around 15 percent. The remainder will be covered—as it has been up to now—by purchased green electricity.
Mayor Christiane Hinninger says: “Our goal is to further increase the share of self-generated electricity for municipal buildings. This is in line with the state capital’s climate plan. The solar power system on the RMCC serves as a prime example of how climate protection also makes economic sense.”
Martin Michel, operations manager of the municipal company TriWiCon, which manages the RMCC, says: “For us, the new photovoltaic system is a logical step toward making the RMCC more sustainable in the long term, more economically stable, and less dependent on external electricity price fluctuations.”
The new system on the South Hall complements the existing photovoltaic system on the RMCC’s northern hall complex. Across an additional 1,170 square meters, 524 photovoltaic modules with a total output of approximately 250 kilowatts-peak will be installed. Together, the two photovoltaic systems at the RheinMain CongressCenter cover approximately 2,350 square meters and have a combined capacity of about 450 kWp. The new system can theoretically cover 8.3 percent of the congress center’s total electricity demand. Combined with the previous self-sufficiency rate of 6.6 percent, this brings the total to 15 percent.
The new system will not have any additional electricity storage. Due to the RMCC’s daily base load, a large portion of the energy generated can be used immediately to power the congress center’s ongoing operations. The new system is wholly owned by TriWiCon. The electricity generated is not fed into the public grid but is used on-site. The associated value added remains within the company.
Among other things, TriWiCon is committed to the responsible and efficient use of resources as well as to the continuous expansion of sustainable building technology. On-site electricity generation is a key component of this. This sustainability management approach combines targeted investments in sustainable building technology, rigorous certifications, and resource-efficient event operations into a comprehensive strategy.
A construction crane was set up for the installation of the photovoltaic system. Construction is expected to last until the end of August. TriWiCon asks for your understanding regarding any potential inconveniences during this time. Access to the parking garage is guaranteed at all times.
TriWiCon is a municipal enterprise of the state capital of Wiesbaden and serves as a holding company for Wiesbaden Congress & Marketing GmbH (WICM), which, among other things, operates the RheinMain CongressCenter, the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, and the Jagdschloss Platte. TriWiCon, on the other hand, acts as the municipal owner of the RheinMain CongressCenter, the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, and the Jagdschloss Platte.
