Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

"Workshow" and Reading

The City Museum on the Market Square is hosting a "workshow" and a reading on Thursday, August 27.

On Thursday, August 27, the WerkRaum Wiesbaden will become a venue for Wiesbaden stories in two ways: During the day, students from the Hanau State Academy of Fine Arts will offer insights into the traditional craft of silversmithing. In the evening, Wiesbaden-based author Alexander Pfeiffer will read texts under the title “City Stories,” in which the city itself becomes the protagonist.

How is a vessel created from a flat silver disc? What tools do silversmiths use—and what is it like to try your hand at this time-honored craft? Answers to these questions will be provided at the “Workshow & Talk – dell(at)zeichenakademie” from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at WerkRaum Wiesbaden, Langgasse 5–9. Apprentices from the silversmithing class at the Staatliche Zeichenakademie Hanau will demonstrate basic shaping techniques such as deepening, drawing out, and flattening. Visitors can ask questions and try out individual steps of the process for themselves. Christian Dell completed significant portions of his training at the Hanau Academy of Fine Arts. Even today, silversmiths and metal artists are trained there. The event is part of the accompanying program for the special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Pitcher to Goldgasse,” currently on view at the sam – Stadtmuseum am Markt. The event is free of charge and requires no registration. You can join at any time.

Starting at 6:00 p.m. at WerkRaum, Langgasse 5–9, the “City Stories” event with Alexander Pfeiffer will take place. City history isn’t just about major events and famous names. It’s also the sum of all the stories that have taken place—or could have taken place—at various locations throughout the city. As part of the monthly theme “City Stories,” Wiesbaden-based author Alexander Pfeiffer takes his audience on a literary journey through the state capital. His latest novel, “Terrorballade,” examines Wiesbaden’s legacy of the RAF from a contemporary historical perspective. The essay “Sinnieren im Kaffeetakt” takes readers on a caffeine-fueled intellectual journey through the city center. And poems from the collection “Leuchtfeuer” also reveal their roots in the streets of Wiesbaden. Alexander Pfeiffer was born in Wiesbaden in 1971. He is a writer, host, writing workshop leader, and boxing coach.
