Awareness Teams at the Kleinfeldchen Outdoor Pool

During the summer break, so-called “Awareness Teams” at the Kleinfeldchen outdoor pool promote respectful behavior among swimmers. They also serve as points of contact for the “Luisa is Here” campaign, which provides women with discreet and easily accessible support if they find themselves in an uncomfortable or threatening situation.

The teams from the Mobile Youth Work (MOJA) association can be recognized by their white T-shirts and purple vests. They were on duty for the first time on the last weekend in June and will now be at the Kleinfeldchen outdoor pool every weekend through Sunday, August 9, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Whether it’s verbal harassment or other inappropriate behavior—the Awareness Teams are available on-site to provide information about a respectful and equitable pool and recreational culture. They also provide information about the nationwide “Luisa is here!” campaign, which is coordinated in Wiesbaden by the Municipal Women’s Office. Since May, the municipal swimming pool operator mattiaqua—which owns the Kleinfeldchen outdoor pool—has been participating in the campaign. Anyone who asks a mattiaqua staff member, “Is Luisa here?” will receive support. mattiaqua staff are trained to handle such situations and can offer assistance.

Thomas Baum, operations manager at mattiaqua, says: “It’s important to us that our swimming pool is a safe place for everyone. The fact that we’re deploying the awareness teams and participating in the ‘Luisa is here!’ campaign is no cause for concern. On the contrary: Both should be seen as a mark of quality and make it clear that there is no place for sexist or abusive behavior at mattiaqua.”

Carolin Rauscher, an advisor with the Municipal Women’s Office, adds: “By implementing the ‘Luisa is Here’ campaign at mattiaqua, we’re taking a stand against violence against women and making public spaces safer.”

Bontu Adam, coordinator of MOJA e.V. for the awareness teams, says: “We don’t just offer help in specific situations. We’re where teenagers and young people are, offering them conversations and support, and promoting respectful coexistence.”
