Inauguration of the Renovated and Expanded Auringen Municipal Administration Building
On Friday, July 10, the renovation and expansion of the Auringen municipal administration building, located at Kirchenhügel 3, was officially completed with a symbolic ceremony.
“As a city, we have invested in climate protection and historic preservation in Auringen. We have also created modern workspaces, an office for volunteers, and a meeting room for clubs and groups,” said Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende. “With the successful completion of the renovation, a series of previous construction projects has come to a successful conclusion. The building is now a central hub for residents as well as a modern workplace in a historic setting.”
The renovation project was prompted by a leaky roof through which rain had already been seeping into the building. In 2024, the City Council then approved the necessary roof renovation, supplemented by the refurbishment of the so-called “front wing.” This wing was still in its 1950s condition. It now houses a meeting room and several offices. In addition, the former “schoolhouse with teacher’s apartment”—built in the 1930s and later used as the Auring town hall—received a new hybrid heating system (heat pump/gas condensing boiler), a photovoltaic system, completely new roofing, extensive interior renovations, and insulation of the previously uninsulated front wing.
The entire project cost approximately 1.2 million euros. Of this amount, about 480,000 euros came from the city’s climate budget, while the remaining funds were financed from the main office’s maintenance budget.
“I am pleased that all the work was completed on schedule and within the estimated budget,” concluded Mende, who, as the department head, is also responsible for the Main Office and thus for the local administrations.
