Photographer Captures Wiesbaden's Cityscape
One of the statutory responsibilities of the Wiesbaden City Archives is to visually document the current cityscape of the Hessian state capital for posterity. Over the next few months, an employee of the archives will therefore be out and about in the city to photograph important, distinctive buildings, streetscapes, and public spaces that are subject to change.
“In doing so, we are fulfilling an important documentary mandate set forth in the archival bylaws of the state capital of Wiesbaden,” says Dr. Peter Quadflieg, director of the City Archives. “Of course, all legal regulations are being observed.”
This is based on the legally enshrined freedom to take panoramic photographs under Section 59 of the Law on Copyright and Related Rights (Copyright Act). Accordingly, the photos are taken only from publicly accessible paths, streets, or squares. Furthermore, they document only the exterior appearance of the buildings or streetscapes. Individuals are not photographed, and the right to one’s own image under Section 22 of the Act on Copyright in Works of Fine Art and Photography is preserved.
The photographs will be added to the collection of the City Archives, located at Im Rad 42, and are subject to the retention periods specified in the Archival Bylaws of the State Capital of Wiesbaden and the Hessian Archives Act (HArchivG).
