Guided Tour at the City Museum: “A Picnic Outdoors with Resopal”
The City Museum on the Market Square (sam), Marktplatz, invites you to a themed tour titled “A Picnic in the Open Air with Resopal—Christian Dell as a Plastics Pioneer” on Thursday, July 16, at 6 p.m., as part of the special exhibition “Christian Dell—From the Silver Pitcher to Goldgasse.”
Christian Dell is best known for his lighting designs. This themed tour focuses on a lesser-known but particularly fascinating aspect of his work: his designs made of plastic. As early as the 1930s, Dell was experimenting with new materials and developing functional everyday objects for modern life.
Joana Brauhardt, the exhibition’s research project assistant, will present selected objects and demonstrate how Dell broke new ground in product design with materials such as Resopal—from handcrafted one-of-a-kind pieces to high-quality mass-produced items.
The themed tour lasts approximately one hour. Participation is limited; no registration is required. The cost is 6 euros, reduced rate 4 euros, plus a 4-euro tour fee.
The exhibition is a project as part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026. WDC 2026 is supported by the State of Hesse, the City of Frankfurt am Main, and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
The City Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit: www.stadtmuseum-wiesbaden.de (opens in a new tab).
