Mayor Christiane Hinninger says: “Playgrounds are more than just places to play—especially in a newly developed neighborhood. They are gathering places for families and important building blocks for a livable city. With this new playground, we want to create a place where people enjoy spending time, where all children can play, and that is equipped to meet the challenges of climate change. The large umbrellas are already providing shade today. The newly planted trees will naturally supplement this shade in the coming years.” 

The centerpiece of the facility is a climbing tower with a suspension bridge, various climbing and balancing elements, and a curved slide. The play area is complemented by a play structure with a gently sloping ramp that can also be used by children with mobility impairments. Tactile and movement elements, a sand play table accessible to children in wheelchairs, and various balancing and climbing structures provide further opportunities for play and discovery. There is also a ground-level trampoline, a bird’s nest swing, and spring rockers for very young children. 

A special feature of the new playground is its comprehensive shading concept. Large, strong-wind-resistant sunshades have been installed over the central play areas, providing effective shade immediately after the opening. These are complemented by numerous newly planted trees, whose canopies will offer additional natural shade and coolness in the coming years. 

The newly laid lawns surrounding the play equipment must remain off-limits for now. Due to the dry weather in recent weeks, the grass has not yet had time to establish itself sufficiently and is not yet able to withstand foot traffic. The city of Wiesbaden therefore asks all visitors to respect the barriers and refrain from walking on the lawns. This will allow them to be opened for use as soon as possible. 

With 83 new trees, spacious green areas, and a variety of recreational amenities, a public open space is taking shape around the playground. The total construction costs for the facility amount to approximately 2.29 million euros, of which about 810,000 euros were allocated to the playground.
