“I’m delighted that the children and families in Westend will once again have an attractive playground during the summer break,” says Mayor and Commissioner for Green Spaces Christiane Hinninger. “Blücherplatz is an important gathering place in the neighborhood. Especially in a densely built-up district like Westend, children need places close to home where they can play, be active, and meet other children.”

During inspections, damage to load-bearing components had been discovered on the old playground equipment, so it had to be removed for safety reasons. “This situation at Blücherplatz was, of course, unsatisfactory for local families. It’s all the more wonderful that, despite the long delivery times, we were able to create a diverse range of play options again relatively quickly,” says Hinninger. 

Blücherplatz now offers several new play options for children: The sand construction area provides younger children in particular with new opportunities to dig, pour, and play together in the sand. The sensory arena is designed especially for middle-aged and older children and combines movement, climbing, and balancing with various sensory experiences. Together with the multi-seat swing set—featuring a nest swing, a partner swing, and two single seats—this once again provides a diverse range of activities for different age groups. 

The next step is to prepare for the comprehensive renovation and redesign of the playground area on Blücherplatz. The city has secured funding for this project and has laid the technical groundwork for further planning. 

“The goal,” said Mayor Hinninger, “is to modernize the playground and enhance the quality of life in the neighborhood. The new equipment will also be incorporated into the planned redesign of the playground and will find its place there.” In line with the city’s established practice in playground construction, all users can contribute their ideas and needs to the planning process as part of the public participation process.
