District President Prof. Jan Hilligardt Visits City Hall
Prof. Dr. Jan Hilligardt, District President of Darmstadt, visited Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende at Wiesbaden City Hall on Friday, July 3, as part of his summer tour.
During the visit, Mende and Prof. Hilligardt discussed various topics, including the 2040 Land Use Plan and the budget of the City of Wiesbaden. “I would like to thank Prof. Hilligardt for the collegial exchange. The Regional Council is an important point of contact for us as a city, as it performs numerous supervisory, monitoring, and approval functions,” said Mende. In addition to today’s discussion between Mende and Prof. Hilligardt, there are numerous other regular working-level contacts between Wiesbaden and the Regional Council.
The Darmstadt Regional Council is the regional center of expertise for the Hessian state administration in the Darmstadt administrative district and is therefore also responsible for the state capital, Wiesbaden. It enforces state, federal, and EU law in the region, ensures the uniform application of the law, and serves as a link between the state government and the region. Its main areas of responsibility include local government, regional planning, the economy, transportation, construction, consumer protection, immigration law, occupational safety, environmental and nature conservation, agriculture, and forestry.
Prof. Hilligardt has served as District President of the Darmstadt Regional Council since March 2024. His visit to Wiesbaden took place as part of his summer tour, during which Prof. Hilligardt is gradually visiting all district administrators and mayors in the Darmstadt administrative district.
