Dr. Patricia Becher, Director of Social Services, Welcomes International Youth Groups at City Hall
On Thursday, July 2, Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Social Affairs Department, welcomed the participants of the international youth exchange programs “Open for Exchange” and “Girls across Borders” at City Hall in Wiesbaden, the state capital.
The exchanges take place as part of “Wiesbaden International.” Through “Wiesbaden International,” the state capital of Wiesbaden continues to prioritize international youth exchanges as an important contribution to democracy education, intercultural learning, and European understanding.
“International youth exchanges foster understanding, respect, and solidarity. Especially at a time when conflicts and crises are causing many people to feel uncertain, such personal encounters are more important than ever,” Dr. Becher emphasized in her welcoming remarks.
The German-Moroccan youth exchange “Open for Exchange” arose from a collaboration between the Ihadouten Association for Development Aid, the Schelmengraben Community Center, and the Moroccan partner organization Young United. Many of the participating young people have family roots in the Al Hoceima region, which gives the exchange special personal and cultural significance.
The “Girls across Borders” project is carried out by the Friends of the Wilhelm-Heinrich-von-Riehl School in collaboration with the Greek partner organization Filoxenia. The project focuses on topics such as gender equality, environmental education, and remembrance work. In particular, the project empowers girls and young women to contribute their perspectives and get involved across borders.
During the reception, the young people shared their impressions and experiences from their encounters. The photo presentations vividly demonstrated the openness, curiosity, and sense of community inherent in the projects.
Dr. Becher thanked all participating organizations, the international partners, and the supervisors for their dedication. She also extended special thanks to the European Erasmus+ funding program and other supporters who made the exchanges possible. At the conclusion of the reception, the young people received their EU Youth Passes in recognition of their commitment and the skills they acquired through the projects.
