Walhalla: City Plans to Apply for Federal Funding
At the invitation of Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Members of the Bundestag Dr. Thorsten Rudolph and Martin Rabanus visited the site to get a firsthand look at the revitalization of the Walhalla cultural center and to learn about the progress made.
Among other things, the meeting addressed the question of what federal funding opportunities are available for cultural buildings and institutions and what eligibility requirements apply to them.
Based on the current state of planning, the preliminary total cost for the renovation of the Walhalla is estimated at around 70 million euros. The renovation is scheduled for completion in 2030.
“The Walhalla is part of the life stories of many residents of Wiesbaden, and once it reopens its doors following a successful renovation, it will once again play an important role in the city’s cultural life and serve as a beacon of cultural significance beyond the region. We are pleased that this planned development of the Walhalla cultural venue is generating interest and that we are able to submit applications for federal funding programs,” said Gert-Uwe Mende, mayor of the state capital of Wiesbaden.
Dr. Thorsten Rudolph said: “The city of Wiesbaden has presented an impressive concept for the new Walhalla cultural center, which I was able to get a good sense of during the site visit.”
Martin Rabanus added: “‘Third places’ are essential to enriching our social life. The Walhalla Cultural Center has the potential to become a special ‘third place’ that would greatly enrich downtown Wiesbaden. That is why, as a local representative, I am advocating for federal funding for the project.”
