Biowaste fermentation plant: funding decision for construction and operation
On Tuesday, June 2, the Hessian Minister of the Interior, Prof. Dr. Roman Poseck, presented the two shareholders of B2P Bio2Power GmbH, the Rheingau-Taunus district, represented by District Administrator Sandro Zehner, and the state capital of Wiesbaden, represented by Department Head Andreas Kowol, with a funding decision of EUR 75,000.
B2P Bio2Power GmbH, headquartered in Wiesbaden, was founded on February 19, 2025. Fifty percent of the company’s shares are held by the Rheingau-Taunus district and the state capital of Wiesbaden—through its wholly owned subsidiary, MBA Wiesbaden GmbH. The State Capital of Wiesbaden’s participation is carried out through MBA Wiesbaden GmbH, as the large waste streams from the waste management companies (ELW) are centrally handled through this company.
The goal of B2P Bio2Power GmbH is to build and operate a biowaste digestion plant as part of an intermunicipal collaboration between the State Capital of Wiesbaden and the Rheingau-Taunus District. To ensure optimal economic utilization, the newly founded company will also process the biowaste from the Rhein-Lahn District (RLK) and the science city of Darmstadt at the biowaste digestion plant. The biowaste digestion plant will be located at the Dyckerhoffbruch landfill. It is scheduled to go into operation in 2029.
The planned facility will be able to process up to 60,000 tons of biowaste per year. The investment costs amount to approximately 40 million euros.
The plant will be built using state-of-the-art technology and equipped with processing technology that significantly increases biogas yield compared to conventional methods. The concept includes biogas purification with the goal of feeding it into the municipal gas grid.
