Working Together to Develop Ideas for the Health City of Tomorrow
How can Wiesbaden continue to develop as a healthy city? Numerous representatives from the healthcare sector, politics, public administration, academia, social services, and civil society addressed this question during the workshop day on the “Healthy City Wiesbaden” action plan, which took place on Wednesday, June 17, at the Civilkammer in Heimathafen Wiesbaden.
The event, organized by “Ein gesundes Wiesbaden” and moderated by health coordinator Eva Ebel, was a key component in the development of the “Healthy City of Wiesbaden” action plan. This plan is currently being developed by the Society for a Healthy Wiesbaden on behalf of the State Capital of Wiesbaden.
Following a keynote presentation by Dr. Katharina Böhm, Executive Director of the Hessian Working Group for Health Promotion (HAGE), participants discussed key future issues in health development for the city as part of a World Café. At five thematic tables, key areas of action for the action plan were discussed: gaps in care, digitalization, the further development of Wiesbaden as an innovative health hub, prevention and health promotion, and the role of politics and administration in shaping a healthy city. Through this interdisciplinary exchange, numerous ideas, suggestions, and concrete proposals for action were gathered. A key success was the strong interest in continuing a broad-based dialogue to raise Wiesbaden’s profile as a city of health.
“The workshop demonstrated just how much knowledge, commitment, and creative energy exist in our city. The perspectives shared will now be systematically evaluated and will directly inform the further development of the action plan,” explains Ebel, who is responsible for developing the content of the action plan.
Milena Löbcke, Head of the Health Department, adds: “Good health care reduces barriers and is the foundation for a good life for all of us, regardless of gender, age, background, or income. It must not be a privilege, but rather a standard for everyone living here. The ‘Healthy City’ Action Plan is being developed to create a comprehensive strategy for this.”
The action plan aims to strengthen health as a shared future priority for the city and to develop concrete measures for a healthy Wiesbaden in the coming years. The results of the workshop form an important foundation for this. In the coming months, the proposals submitted will be evaluated and incorporated into the further development of the action plan. The action plan is scheduled to be published by the end of 2026.
