Understanding Heat, Protecting Health: An Event for Older Adults

The Office of Social Services invites older adults to a special event on Tuesday, June 23, focusing on heat and health. As part of the “Leisure & Culture for 55+” program, the Senior Services Department is hosting “Infotainment: Heat Protection” at the Treffpunkt aktiv Gräselberg, Klagenfurter Ring 82.

The event begins at 3 p.m. and combines information on coping with the heat with entertainment and socializing. The program includes a short presentation with practical tips for hot days, musical performances related to the weather, and a quiz with small prizes. Refreshments will be provided by young people from the Gräselberg Community Center.

Due to climate change, heat waves are becoming increasingly common in Germany as well. High temperatures can take a toll on health. Older adults, in particular, are among the population groups most at risk from heat. The event provides information on how to reduce health risks and what to watch out for on hot days.

“Heat is no longer an exceptional occurrence. Older people in particular should know how to protect themselves. At the same time, we want to use this event to show that information can also be fun and bring people together,” says Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of Social Affairs.

Participation is free of charge. Please register by calling (0611) 313502. The venue is accessible via bus line 15, getting off at the Karawankenstraße stop. Further information on the “Leisure & Culture for 55+” program is available at www.wiesbaden.de/freizeit-kultur (opens in a new tab)
