Curator-Led Tour of the Special Exhibition at the City Museum

The City Museum on the Market (sam), located on Marktplatz, invites you to an after-work guided tour of the special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Jug to Goldgasse” on Thursday, July 2, at 6 p.m., led by the exhibition’s curator, Dr. Vera Klewitz.

As a master craftsman at the Bauhaus in Weimar and head of the metalworking class at the Frankfurt am Main School of Art, Dell influenced an entire generation of designers. He gained international recognition primarily for his lighting designs in the “Kaiser Idell” series, which are still considered design classics today.

Together with the exhibition’s curator, participants will explore the life and work of the designer, Bauhaus teacher, and later resident of Wiesbaden (1893–1974). The tour traces Dell’s journey from his early days as a silversmith in Hanau through the Bauhaus to Wiesbaden and showcases selected objects from the exhibition—ranging from early silverwork to the famous lamps of the “Kaiser Idell” series.

The tour lasts about one and a half hours. The cost is 6 euros, reduced rate 4 euros, plus a tour fee of 6 euros. Registration is required at (0611) 44750060 or infostadtmuseum-wiesbadende.

The exhibition is a project within the framework of WDC 2026. WDC 2026 is supported by the State of Hesse, the City of Frankfurt am Main, and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
