"Metropolis 2026": Final presentation of international youth meeting

Around 60 young people from ten European countries lived, learned and worked together at the youth nature campsite in Wiesbaden as part of the "Metropolis 2026" international youth exchange. Towards the end of the meeting, the participants presented their project results to invited guests and partner organizations on Monday, 8 June. The meeting will take place from Tuesday, June 2 to Wednesday, June 10.

The focus was on the theme of “urban learning”—the city as a space for living, experiencing, and learning. In creative workshops on theater, photography, video, drawing, and other forms of artistic expression, the participants developed their own perspectives on living together in the city and presented their findings at the conclusion of the event.

Volunteer City Councilmember Birgit Neumann attended the closing event on behalf of Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Social Affairs Department. She emphasized the importance of international youth exchanges for intercultural exchange and European cohesion. The fact that young people from Ukraine and Georgia also took part in the exchange gave the project special significance: it sent a visible signal of openness, dialogue, and mutual understanding across social and political boundaries.

According to Neumann, special thanks went to the organizing association arco e. V., particularly Matthias Schier and Peter Aurin, as well as all participating partner organizations and supporters. She also highlighted the funding provided by the Erasmus+ program, without which international exchanges of this kind would not be possible.

The association arco is a network partner in the Wiesbaden Worldwide network and actively supports the goals of Wiesbaden International. Through Wiesbaden International, the state capital of Wiesbaden pursues the goal of preparing children and young people for life in a globalized world and enabling as many young people as possible to gain experience abroad. International youth exchanges and exchange programs promote openness to the world, a change of perspective, and mutual understanding, thereby making an important contribution to a diverse and international Wiesbaden.
