Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

New Android smartphone courses at Zukunftswerk

With two new Android smartphone course series, the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council of the state capital Wiesbaden and Zukunftswerk Wiesbaden are helping senior citizens to use their own smartphones more safely and independently.

Whether it’s checking train schedules, sending messages, sharing photos with family, or using digital services, smartphones have long been an essential part of daily life for many people. However, for older adults in particular, getting started in the digital world isn’t always easy.

The courses are designed for people with Android smartphones who want to expand their knowledge or feel more confident using their device. In small groups, digital mentor Kirsten Kelly explains the most important features in a clear and practical way. In addition to basic settings and smartphone operation, the program also covers topics such as internet use, apps, communication, photos, and helpful features for everyday life.

The program places special emphasis on allowing ample time for individual questions. Participants work directly on their own smartphones and can immediately put what they’ve learned into practice.

“Digital participation starts in everyday life. Those who can use their smartphones confidently find it easier to stay in touch with family and friends, find information more quickly, organize appointments, and use digital services more independently. That is exactly what we are all about at Zukunftswerk: not just informing people about digitalization, but supporting them in a very practical way. The smartphone courses are a low-barrier offering that provides confidence, breaks down barriers, and empowers seniors to use the digital possibilities of everyday life on their own terms,” says Maral Koohestanian, Director of Smart City, Europe, and Public Order.

Angelika Dortmann, Chair of the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Board, adds: “The state capital is making strides in the digitalization of municipal services and cultural offerings. To ensure that everyone benefits from this, the courses at Zukunftswerk are conducted in cooperation with the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Board. Our goal is to make it easier for older people to access digital technologies and to strengthen their digital participation in the long term.”

There are two course series. The first course series takes place on the following dates, every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: July 21, July 28, August 4, August 11, August 18, and August 25.
