Summer in the City: WerkRaum Kicks Off in July

Under the title “Summer in the City,” WerkRaum Wiesbaden, located at Langgasse 5–9, invites visitors in July to rediscover the city as a place for encounters, exchange, and active participation. Exhibitions, projects, and open activities create space for conversation, participation, and shared experiences. Playful elements such as ping-pong tables and other hands-on activities also make the WerkRaum a lively gathering place right in the heart of downtown.

A special highlight in July is the traveling exhibition “Stricheln und Sticheln – Satire in the Crisis of Democracy,” which will be on view at WerkRaum Wiesbaden from Wednesday, July 1, through Saturday, August 1, as part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain and the 80th anniversary of Hesse. The Stadtmuseum am Markt (sam) invites you to the official opening on Tuesday, July 7, at 5:30 p.m. at WerkRaum Wiesbaden. Admission is free; registration is requested at infostadtmuseum-wiesbadende or (0611) 44750060.

This traveling exhibition from the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt, in cooperation with the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain, brings together cartoons by Katharina Greve, “Greser & Lenz,” and “Hauck & Bauer,” as well as satirical poems by Thomas Gsella. They are all among the leading figures in the German satirical scene. Their work appears regularly in publications such as *Titanic*, the *Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung* (FAZ), and the *Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung* (FASZ).

“In a democracy under pressure, our society and its internal cohesion face major challenges. Satire can serve as a catalyst and a gateway to conversation, and act as a relieving force in heated debates. It highlights a society’s democratic character, particularly at points of social tension. Laughter helps, especially in times of crisis,” reads the exhibition’s accompanying text.

WerkRaum Wiesbaden is a project within the framework of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026. WDC 2026 is supported by the State of Hesse, the City of Frankfurt am Main, and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
