Sound essay "Ichthyosaurus Brecht" at the Literaturhaus
On Wednesday, June 17, Ruth Fühner and Oliver Augst will present a text and sound performance entitled "Ichthyosaurus Brecht" at 8 pm at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1. The production is part of the MADE.festival 2026.
Everything revolves around water as the epitome of change and the mutability of circumstances. This element accompanied Bertolt Brecht throughout his life and runs through his work in the form of rivers and the open sea, or as a symbol of doom and rebellion. In her essay, Fühner weaves together various texts into a fluid portrait of Brecht, placing the protagonist of the story “Before the Flood”—the prehistoric fish-lizard Ichthyosaurus—at the center. Added to this is the music that Augst created specifically for the essay with the French trio L’Impolie. The sound of this improvised text-and-sound performance changes with every performance, as it uses special records that wear down with each play.
Tickets cost 12 euros in advance, 9 euros for students, plus a booking fee. Tickets are available at the Wiesbaden Tourist Information Office, Marktplatz 1, (0611) 1729930, or online via the Literaturhaus website. Tickets at the box office cost 15 euros, reduced rate 11 euros.
