Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Start of the "Wiesbaden Engagiert!" campaign week brings generations together

The 22nd "Wiesbaden Engagiert!" campaign week opened on Friday, June 12, with a project at the Bierstadt care center. Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, Head of the Department of Culture and Finance, opened the event on behalf of Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Department of Social Affairs, and also conveyed the greetings of Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende to those present. He is the patron of the campaign week.

When the preschoolers from Heßloch and the staff of the publishing house DG Nexolution cook together with the elderly residents at the AWO Konrad Arndt Care Center in Bierstadt, the result is more than just a warm meal. The fun and joy of working together bring generations together and inspire a desire to get to know one another. Engaging with different walks of life and new people is a central part of many “Wiesbaden Engagiert!” initiatives.

From June 12 to 19, more than 1,500 employees from 102 Wiesbaden-based companies and institutions are volunteering for the common good. They will support daycare centers, schools, and facilities for older or disabled people, and will also be active in nature conservation, environmental protection, and educational projects. In recognition of their commitment, their employers are granting them a day off work.

Dr. Schmehl thanked the more than 1,500 participants on behalf of all the projects for their commitment to the common good during the campaign week. In total, more than 160 action days will take place from June 12 to 19. “‘Wiesbaden Engagiert!’ shows how much can be achieved when people come together and work as a team. Companies contribute time, ideas, and energy; social institutions receive concrete support; and this often leads to connections that extend beyond the action day. It is precisely this sense of community that strengthens our city,” emphasizes Dr. Becher.

The “Wiesbaden Engagiert!” action week is a pillar of the “Wiesbaden Engagiert!” strategy of the Office for Social Work. The goal is to promote cooperation between companies and nonprofit organizations and to strengthen social engagement in a sustainable way. Based on the number of participants, the action week is considered the largest event of its kind in Europe.
