Dotzheim forest cemetery: gardener-managed burial ground to be extended

The existing gardener-managed burial ground at the Dotzheim forest cemetery has been expanded. The service, which has been available at the cemetery since 2015 and is also known as the "Memoriam Garden", offers relatives a care-free form of grave design. In the expanded area, 43 urn graves as well as three earth graves are offered.

Mayor and Head of the Environment Department Christiane Hinninger says: “With the expansion of the Memoriam Garden at the Dotzheim Forest Cemetery, we are providing residents with modern and dignified burial sites. This is our response to the changing landscape of cemetery and funeral culture.”

The implementation of the Memoriam Gardens at Wiesbaden’s cemeteries is a project of the Cemetery Department in collaboration with local cemetery gardening firms and stonemasonry businesses, as well as the Trust Agency for Permanent Grave Maintenance in Hesse-Thuringia.

For the garden-maintained gravesites, all planting and maintenance work is permanently handled by the participating cemetery gardeners. To this end, the beneficiaries enter into a contract with the Trust Agency for Permanent Grave Maintenance, which ensures professional care throughout the entire term. This service is aimed in particular at relatives who are unable to maintain the grave themselves—whether due to time constraints or because they do not live in Wiesbaden or the surrounding area.

In addition to the Dotzheim Forest Cemetery, there are also Memoriam Gardens at the cemeteries in Biebrich, Bierstadt, Nordenstadt, Naurod, Delkenheim, and at the Wiesbaden South Cemetery.

Further information is available at www.memoriam-garten.de (opens in a new tab) or from the respective cemetery caretakers. The Cemetery Department within the Parks and Recreation Department of the State Capital of Wiesbaden maintains a total of 21 cemeteries within the city limits.
