Pupils from Wiesbaden successful in European competition "Your Europe: Rights, Respect - Reality?"
Pupils from all year groups across Germany were invited to creatively address European topics and contribute their ideas for a life in freedom and security to the 73rd European Competition under the motto "Your Europe: Rights, Respect - Reality?
Four schools from Wiesbaden and one from the Rheingau-Taunus district participated with great success: In total, the students submitted 277 entries, 117 of which received awards.
The winners were honored on Monday, June 1, during a festive reception in the ballroom of Wiesbaden City Hall by Maral Koohestanian, Head of the European Affairs Department, and Ute Wiegand-Fleischhacker, State Chair of Europaunion Hessen e.V.
“I am very impressed by the creativity, clarity, and courage with which the students engage with European core values,” emphasizes Maral Koohestanian, Head of the European Affairs Department. “The European Competition is an important platform for encouraging young people to think critically, take a stand, and get involved as active European citizens. Especially in times of social tension, this gives hope for the future of Europe.”
The reception was accompanied by an exhibition of the award-winning works as well as musical performances by students from the participating schools.
Background: The European Competition is the oldest competition for students in Germany. It is held under the patronage of the Federal President and invites participants annually to engage creatively and in an age-appropriate manner with European topics and issues.
