“The network’s practical focus is a major advantage—all businesses benefit, regardless of industry or size,” said Mayor and Head of the Environment Department Christiane Hinninger. 

Following the successful launch of the ÖKOPROFIT Club with 35 companies, the 17th round of the project is now getting underway. A new feature is the expanded focus on climate management: “This year, participants can prepare a detailed carbon footprint analysis and thus create the transparency needed to reduce their CO₂ emissions,” explains Dr. Klaus Friedrich, Director of the Wiesbaden Environmental Office.

This round features seven new participants: In addition to DEURAG Deutsche Rechtsschutz-Versicherung AG and Spielbank Wiesbaden GmbH & Co. KG, Erbslöh Geisenheim GmbH—a company in the beverage technology sector—is participating in ÖKOPROFIT. Municipal institutions and companies are also represented once again, including SEG Wiesbaden mbH, WiBau GmbH, the Department of Economic Affairs and Employment, and the Cultural Affairs Office with the Kunsthaus.

The ÖKOPROFIT program focuses on environmental and climate impact assessments, hands-on workshops, and individualized business consulting. Upon successful completion of the approximately one-year program, the businesses receive the “Wiesbaden ÖKOPROFIT Business” designation. In this way, they reduce operating costs, conserve resources, and benefit from a strong network.

A large number of the club’s member businesses are also actively involved in the federal initiative “Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks” (IEEKN)—for the sixth consecutive year, with shared energy and CO₂ reduction targets.

Since the project began in 2000, approximately 160 companies have participated in the Wiesbaden ÖKOPROFIT program, and a total of over 500 certificates have been awarded. The project is sponsored by the Wiesbaden Environmental Agency in cooperation with the Wiesbaden Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK), ESWE Versorgungs AG, and the Wiesbaden Climate Protection Agency e.V.
