City Adjusts Traffic Routes in Kostheim During the Closure of the A 671
Due to the heavy traffic in the center of Kostheim (Alt-Kostheim) resulting from the closure of the A 671 (Vorland Bridge), the city police, in coordination with the road traffic authority and the transportation department, have been managing traffic during peak hours since Thursday afternoon.
Following consultation with the local advisory board and other relevant authorities, the following measures were agreed upon:
1. Closure of the left-turn lane from the B 40 onto the Kommerzienrat-Disch Bridge during rush hour Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Access to the Essity facility will remain available for residents and other authorized individuals. The closure times will be adjusted starting Monday based on traffic conditions, so the closure periods may be shortened or extended. The city police will respond flexibly to the prevailing traffic conditions.
2. No-stopping zones have already been established at various locations to improve traffic flow. The corresponding signage will be installed this Friday afternoon. This applies, first, to Hauptstraße between Münchhofstraße and Rektor-Stamm-Weg (on both sides). It also applies to Hauptstraße near house numbers 123 and 125. Furthermore, no-stopping zones will be established on Winterstraße between Wilhelmstraße and Hauptstraße to extend the stopping area in front of the signalized intersection.
3. Another measure initiated by the traffic authority is a review of the signalized intersection at Winterstraße/Hauptstraße/Maaraustraße to extend the green phase for traffic coming from Winterstraße.
4. In addition, the traffic authority is in contact with the waste management services of the state capital of Wiesbaden and the company Meinhardt to ensure that trash is collected outside of peak traffic hours.
5. The city police will also be present throughout the entire historic downtown area to issue citations for illegal parking, thereby maintaining the flow of traffic. Furthermore, a patrol will prevent illegal entries from the Main Bridge onto the western section of Hauptstraße during the times specified in point 1.
Additional traffic measures are currently under review.
Based on initial observations from yesterday afternoon and this morning, the measures taken are having a positive effect on traffic flow throughout the town center. However, it must be emphasized that, regardless of which traffic measures are implemented, they will merely result in a shift in traffic patterns. There is no definitive solution for closing a highway that would completely keep highway traffic out of surrounding towns.
The Road Traffic Authority remains in close contact with all parties involved—in particular the Kostheim Local Advisory Council, Autobahn GmbH, the city police, etc.—to ensure that this measure can be implemented quickly and as smoothly as possible.
The Road Traffic Authority asks that drivers avoid the area by taking a wide detour.
