This is made possible by a new visualization module that is being used for the first time. It links selected locations in Wiesbaden with information, images, videos, and related links, creating an interactive digital tour. Visitors can thus take a virtual tour of the city and discover the various WDC projects. Starting in May, the WerkRaum in the former Sportscheck building will feature a digital interactive table—developed by Point.Architektur in collaboration with Prof. Jörg Waldschütz and on loan from RheinMain University of Applied Sciences—that allows all visitors to explore Wiesbaden’s WDC projects. Alternatively, those interested can access all the information online at: wiesbaden.virtualcitymap.de/storyWDC/ (opens in a new tab). 

“With more than 30 projects, Wiesbaden is a key part of the World Design Capital 2026. The digital twin opens up a new way for us to make this diversity visible and to connect these projects in a way that allows people to experience them together,” explains Jörg-Uwe Funk, Director of the Cultural Affairs Office of the State Capital of Wiesbaden. 

The new module makes it possible to mark individual project locations directly on the digital city map and supplement them with background information. In addition to images, videos, and documents, links to existing information pages—such as those on www.wiesbaden.de (opens in a new tab) or www.wdc2026.org (opens in a new tab)—can also be integrated. 

A key added value lies in the interactive navigation: Users can move from one project location to the next via virtual camera flights through the city, embarking on a digital journey of discovery through Wiesbaden’s WDC projects. 

“The World Design Capital is an ideal occasion to use this new feature of our Digital Twin for the first time. In this way, we combine cultural content with innovative urban technology and make Wiesbaden’s projects accessible in a new way,” says the internal development team of the Wiesbaden Digital Twin, describing the innovation. 

For the implementation, existing content was largely utilized. Information on the Wiesbaden projects is already available in various overviews and at www.wiesbaden.de/wdc (opens in a new tab). This database was used—with the consent of the respective project managers—for presentation in the Digital Twin. 

The Digital Twin can thus serve as an additional communication tool for the World Design Capital in Wiesbaden. This gives interested parties the opportunity to learn about Wiesbaden’s projects for the World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026 not only through text and images, but also to explore them spatially and digitally. In doing so, Wiesbaden is setting innovative standards in the Rhine-Main region.
