Childcare Day: Wiesbaden says thank you
Child daycare creates early educational and development opportunities, helps to strengthen equal opportunities from the outset and is a key prerequisite for many families to reliably reconcile everyday life, family and work.
The Department of Daycare Centers and Child Care within the Office of Social Services is constantly working to improve child care services and the quality of the programs offered. This includes establishing common professional standards, providing training opportunities, and setting mandatory guidelines for daily operations at the facilities, as well as strengthening child care services—for example, through new workplace child care programs.
“Childcare providers are often the first important caregivers for children outside the family. They provide support, foster development, and make countless things possible every day that often go unnoticed. Especially in times of a shortage of skilled workers and rising demands, it becomes clear just how much professionalism, dedication, and responsibility this work entails. For this, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all of you. Your work is indispensable for our city—also because it helps give children a good start in life every day,” explains Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Social Affairs Department.
The demands of working in daycare centers and in child day care have increased significantly in recent years. In addition to educational work, daily life in daycare centers also includes working with parents, documentation, and supporting a wide range of individual life situations.
Thomas Scheffler, Head of the Department of Daycare Centers and Childcare at the Office of Social Work, emphasizes: “Our staff perform highly professional work every day under demanding conditions. They support children during a time that is crucial for their development while also providing reliability for families. This commitment deserves recognition—not just on a single day.”
Childcare Day thus sends a clear signal about the central importance of quality childcare for children, families, and community life in the city.
