Start of construction for the second section of the Wellritzstrasse pedestrian zone
In Wellritzstraße, the conversion to a pedestrian zone and the structural implementation of the existing pedestrian zone regulation will be implemented from Monday, 18 May until probably mid-December. The measure completes the construction work started in 2024 to redesign Wellritzstrasse (2nd construction phase). This fulfills a long-standing wish of the Westend local advisory council.
As part of the project, a ground-level, barrier-free area will be created across the entire width, featuring spaces for outdoor dining, four tree locations, seating, and bicycle parking. Like the section between Helenenstraße and Hellmundstraße, this section will be closed to through traffic at both ends using retractable bollards.
At the start of the project—the first of a total of eight construction phases—the area adjacent to Hellmundstraße will be completely closed off. The closure also affects bicycle traffic. Pedestrians can use their usual routes. Delivery traffic can enter and exit Wellritzstraße via Walramstraße.
During the following five construction phases, cyclists and pedestrians can use their usual routes; restrictions apply only within the construction sites and the respective access roads to the properties/backyards. In the final two construction phases, the Wellritzstraße/Walramstraße intersection will be closed; separate information regarding this will be provided before the start of these phases.
The city asks for your understanding regarding the traffic disruptions associated with the work. There are more than 5,000 construction sites in Wiesbaden each year. If buses are affected, ESWE Verkehr will provide information on bus detours at eswe-verkehr.de (opens in a new tab).
