Blooming rainbow flag on the Dern site
To mark Christopher Street Day (CSD) on Saturday, May 30, a flower bed in the colors of the rainbow, the symbol of diversity, tolerance and openness, will bloom for the first time on the Dern site.
“The blooming rainbow symbolizes our appreciation for diversity in Wiesbaden and our commitment to mutual respect and acceptance. As we continue to develop the planting over the coming weeks, we will create a permanently blooming area that also offers ecological benefits,” says Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
For the design of the flower beds, the Parks Department has combined perennials with summer flowers. Because the newly planted flowers will not reach their full color and bloom until the coming weeks, individual color sections have been supplemented with colored wood chips. This ensures that the rainbow motif is already clearly visible in time for CSD. The mulch also serves a horticultural purpose: it protects the soil, retains moisture, and supports plant growth.
The project marks the start of a long-term enhancement of the area: after this growing season, the plants will be established as permanent perennials on both sides of the path. Additionally, plans call for sowing the areas with a wildflower seed mix.
