Reception of migrant organizations and associations
A large number of volunteers and guests from politics and administration attended this year's reception for migrant organizations and associations on Tuesday, 12 May, at Wiesbaden City Hall.
More than 40 representatives from migrant organizations and associations attended the event. They accepted the invitation from Milena Löbcke, Head of the Integration Department, to the reception, which was held for the third time this year. The event focused on migrant organizations and active participation at the local level.
“For many years, migrant organizations in Wiesbaden have made an indispensable contribution to social cohesion, participation, and democratic coexistence. Diversity is a lived reality in our city—and it thrives particularly well where people get involved and collaboration takes place on an equal footing,” explains City Councilor Löbcke.
Especially in times of social polarization, she said, it is important to send a clear signal in support of democracy, anti-discrimination, and social cohesion. Wiesbaden thrives on the perspectives, experiences, and commitment of its diverse urban community, according to Löbcke.
Following opening remarks by the chair of the Foreign Residents’ Advisory Board, Julius Gomes, and expert presentations by speakers from the House of Resources in Frankfurt am Main, the Spiegelbild Anti-Discrimination Counseling Center, Wiesbaden, and the WIR Diversity Center Wiesbaden, a panel discussion took place in which representatives of migrant organizations and Milena Löbcke, moderated by journalist Marion Kuchenny, exchanged views on the topic “Migrant Organizations and Active Participation at the Local Level – Diversity Must Be Shaped.”
Following the panel, the “Market of Opportunities” featured additional detailed information on support services for migrant organizations in Wiesbaden and the surrounding area, and there was also an informal exchange among the migrant organizations themselves.
