Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Renewal and extension of the cycle paths in Kastel by Helling Höfe

The footpaths and cycle paths in the Eleonorenanlage and along Wiesbadener Straße in Kastel were renewed. The existing network of paths was extended and connected directly to the banks of the Rhine.

The new connection improves access to the Rhine promenade and strengthens the infrastructure for daily and recreational traffic in eastern Wiesbaden, particularly with a view to the district’s future urban development. The project was implemented and financed by the developer Lyson as part of the Helling Höfe neighborhood development.

“With the new pedestrian and bike path, we are creating a direct and safe connection from the neighborhood to the banks of the Rhine. This is a real benefit for the residents of Kastel, both in their daily lives and during their leisure time. It is particularly gratifying that this important infrastructure was created as part of a long-standing and trusting partnership and does not burden the city budget,” says Andreas Kowol, Head of the Department of Construction and Transportation for the state capital.

The developer, Andrzej Lyson, also highlights the cooperation: “Close collaboration with the City of Wiesbaden was crucial to the implementation of this project from the very beginning. The shared goal was to create tangible added value for the neighborhood, the immediate vicinity, and the public through the pedestrian and bicycle paths and the accompanying measures of high-quality tree planting and landscaping. We are very pleased that we can contribute to the attractiveness of the Rhine riverbank.”

The completely renovated bike path runs through the adjacent park and connects to existing route networks such as the Leinpfad and the Regional Park Route. The future bike hub at the Kaiserbrücke will add another key component to the network.

These measures will create an attractive and safe connection for cyclists and pedestrians alike. A special attraction along the route is the “An der Helling” play and balance park. The park was developed on the former Ruthof shipyard site and today offers space for exercise, socializing, and relaxation. Here, too, the investor has contributed to the revitalization as part of the Wiesbaden Socially Equitable Land Use (WiSoBon) initiative.

The cost of the bike path in the park, including restoration and maintenance of adjacent areas, is approximately 95,000 euros. The cost of public walking and biking paths (An der Helling, Eleonorenstraße, Wiesbadener Straße) is approximately 400,000 euros. The cost of landscaping in public spaces, including preparation of tree sites, is approximately 50,000 euros. These costs were fully covered by the developer Lyson and carried out by the Wiesbaden-based gardening and landscaping company Gramenz.

As a neighborhood development, the Helling Höfe—located on a former industrial site and featuring 177 rental apartments, retail space for local amenities, and complementary medical practices—serve as a catalyst for the continued positive development of the western part of Kastel.
