Children's culture festival on the Lehrplatz
As part of the "Auf die Plätze los" project of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 (WDC), a colorful children's culture festival will take place on Friday, June 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lehrplatz, Lehrstraße 10, under the motto "Colorful Effects". Children, families and neighbors are cordially invited to experience a lively afternoon together in the public space.
The festival brings together art, culture, participation, and community. Through creative hands-on activities and artistic contributions, children transform the Lehrplatz into a place of imagination, diversity, and community. The focus is on the ideas and perspectives of young people.
The “Auf die Plätze los” project, run by the Office of Social Work, uses a variety of activities and events to promote the creation of public spaces that are child-friendly, livable, and community-oriented. The “Farbige Effekte” festival at Lehrplatz highlights how children perceive their city and what they hope for in their surroundings. “Projects like ‘Auf die Plätze los’ demonstrate how participation becomes a tangible experience for children. They are the key to a vibrant democracy and thus to a sustainable society,” says Heike Richter, acting director of the Office of Social Work, who will deliver opening remarks.
In addition to a theater performance by the school social work program, children can look forward to a colorful program featuring creative activities in collaboration with local artists. Also on display will be posters from a school social work workshop in collaboration with the Smart City Department, in which children used an AI tool to redesign places and spaces in their neighborhood according to their wishes. The goal of the festival is to revitalize the schoolyard as an open meeting place for children, families, and the neighborhood and to jointly develop new perspectives on public space.
The Children’s Culture Festival is organized by the School Social Work Department for Children at the Anton Gruner School, along with other partners. The event is free of charge.
