Lukas Rietzschel presents "Sanditz"

Opencast lignite mining, forests and quarries - these are the foundations on which Lukas Rietzschel has based his new novel.

On Tuesday, May 26, at 7:30 p.m., the author and playwright will present *Sanditz* at a reading at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, located at Frankfurter Straße 1. Journalist Jan Wiele (FAZ) will moderate the evening. The event is organized by the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine and the Wiesbaden Cultural Office. Further information can be found at www.wiesbaden.de/literaturhaus (opens in a new tab)

In his third novel, author Lukas Rietzschel takes readers back to East Germany, to the eponymous town of “Sanditz.” In this fictional small town on the edge of the country, a multi-perspective panorama of stories, families, and friendships unfolds, spanning from the end of the GDR to the present day, shaped by the pandemic. Rietzschel already enjoyed great success with both audiences and critics alike with his debut, “Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen” (Punching the World with My Fist), which was adapted into a film in 2025. Now follows another multi-layered novel set in the post-reunification era, exploring the desire for belonging and freedom.

Tickets are available in advance for 12 euros, or 9 euros with a discount, plus a booking fee, at the Wiesbaden Tourist Information Office, Marktplatz 1, phone (0611) 1729930; or online via the Literaturhaus website. At the box office on the night of the event, tickets cost 15 euros, or 11 euros with a discount.
