Ostfeld in dialog: The information evening on the new BKA building met with great interest

The information evening on the new building for the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in the Bürgerhaus Erbenheim on Tuesday, May 12, attracted numerous interested parties. Around 250 visitors came to find out about the current status of the project.

The winning firms of the 2024 design competition for the new BKA site, schneider+schumacher and GTL Landschaftsarchitektur, outlined the current status of the urban design, which has been further developed based on new findings.

Following this, the City Planning Office presented the preliminary draft of the zoning plan and outlined the findings from the expert reports to date. In this context, the discussion focused on the specific measures already being planned to resolve potential conflicts in advance.

Many interested parties took the opportunity to ask questions of the interdisciplinary panel of experts. Numerous technical questions were raised, focusing on mobility-related expert reports and other aspects of the urban planning process. Visitors were particularly interested in the planned transportation connection of the BKA campus to the existing road network. Among other things, the development concept—including access roads to the planned BKA property—and the preliminary results of the noise study were discussed.

In this context, the creation of a new stop on the Ländchesbahn was also mentioned, which will be an essential component of the attractive public transportation offering for employees. In addition, there were further questions regarding the general legal framework of the urban development project and its continued implementation. This concerned, for example, the requirements for the swift execution of the development project and the associated obligation to acquire land for the realization of the “All in one” BKA Campus.

Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende summarized the evening with the following words: “It is a top priority for the state capital of Wiesbaden to transparently inform all interested parties about the development of this significant large-scale project. I am therefore extremely pleased that so many people attended the information evening and took the opportunity to ask their questions about the new Federal Criminal Police Office campus. In my view, tonight’s event has made a significant contribution to raising awareness of the complexity of the planning tasks associated with the development of the new BKA site.”

Early public participation, during which the documents related to the zoning plan process will be published and suggestions can be submitted to the City Planning Office, is scheduled for late 2026.
