Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Whereabouts of the Kastel senior citizens' meeting place in the town center

The state capital of Wiesbaden wants to secure the future of the "Treffpunkt aktiv Mainz-Kastel" senior citizens' meeting place in the town center: Following approval in the previous committees, most recently in the social committee on Wednesday, May 6, the final decision is now only pending in the city council. The new premises in Zehnthofstraße could then be rented.

This also fulfills a key request from the Kastel Local Advisory Board: the senior center will not be relocated to the new community center but will remain in the heart of Kastel.

“It sends an important signal to the older residents of Kastel that their meeting place will remain centrally located and easily accessible in the town center in the future. In this way, we ensure social participation and strengthen the established local structures,” says Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of Social Affairs.

Subject to approval by the City Council, the senior center will thus remain an important hub for people aged 55 and older in the neighborhood. It offers a wide range of opportunities for social participation, health promotion, and social interaction, and is of great importance, particularly in light of demographic change. The new premises will be renovated to be barrier-free and designed to meet the needs of the users before they move in. The opening is scheduled for the fall. The senior center will continue to be operated by the Department of Senior Services within the Office of Social Work.
