Nerobergbahn Maintains High Passenger Volume: Approximately 313,300 Passengers in the 2026 Season
The Nerobergbahn in Wiesbaden has concluded its 2026 season and is entering its winter break. The water-ballast funicular, operated by ESWE Verkehr, carried approximately 313,300 passengers over more than 18,000 trips. This figure is just slightly below last year’s record of approximately 315,300 passengers. The railway also served as the setting for the wedding ceremonies of 26 couples this year.
The season kicked off on April 3 of this year, as usual, with a special promotion: All guests celebrating their birthdays that day were allowed to ride for free. In the months that followed, the Nerobergbahn once again brought numerous visitors from Wiesbaden, as well as tourists from Germany and abroad, up to the Neroberg.
One Saturday in July demonstrated that the team can quickly overcome even unforeseen challenges. A fallen tree blocked the tracks, forcing the water-ballast-powered railway to suspend operations. However, the staff were able to clear the tracks within a few hours, allowing the Nerobergbahn to resume operations quickly.
During the winter break, the annual inspection and maintenance work takes place. First, the railway undergoes a comprehensive technical inspection and maintenance. This is followed by TÜV certification to approve it for operation in the coming season.
ESWE Verkehr and the Nerobergbahn team would like to thank all passengers for their visits and look forward to seeing them again next year. The Nerobergbahn will resume service on Friday, March 26, 2027.
