Exhibition at City Hall: “Before I Die, I Live”

The Advena anniversary exhibition, “Before I Die, I Live,” highlights hospice care at City Hall, Schlossplatz 6.

30 Years of Hospice Advena and 10 Years of Advena’s Outpatient Hospice Service: What is life like in a hospice? Who are the people behind hospice care? And how has this work evolved in Wiesbaden over the past 30 years? These questions are the focus of the anniversary exhibition “Before I Die, I Live,” which will be on display at Wiesbaden City Hall from Tuesday, October 20, through Friday, October 30. Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende will open the exhibition on Tuesday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m., as part of the official anniversary celebration. Historical photographs, newspaper clippings, and documents chronicle the beginnings of Hesse’s first inpatient hospice, which opened in Wiesbaden in 1996, and its development over three decades. Portraits and personal quotes from staff and volunteers highlight the people who have shaped Advena and continue to breathe life into it today.

Four events at City Hall invite you to learn about hospice work from different perspectives:

· Saturday, October 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., matinee reading of “Die Flockenleserin” with Mike Powelz, Room 22, ground floor;

· Tuesday, October 27, 4:00–6:00 p.m., “Hospice Care in Wiesbaden: Inpatient and Outpatient,” lecture with Lydia Gretz and Franziska Knörr, foyer;

· Wednesday, October 28, 4:00–6:00 p.m., reading of “Final Questions: What the Dying Want to Know” with Matthias Struth, Room 22, ground floor;

All events are free of charge. Due to limited seating, advance registration is required for the two readings. Free registration for the readings:

In addition, Advena staff and volunteers will be available daily from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at hospice information booths in City Hall to answer questions and engage in personal conversations.
