Code Week 2026: The Smart City Department and the Seibert Foundation Bring Programming to High Schools in Wiesbaden
As part of European Code Week, which runs from Saturday, October 10, through Sunday, October 25, the Seibert Foundation and the Smart City Department of the City of Wiesbaden are conducting joint coding projects at two high schools in Wiesbaden.
From Monday, October 19, through Friday, October 23, the project teams will be visiting Mosbacher Berg High School and Gutenberg School.
Depending on the project, the students will either design their own websites or delve into the Python programming language. These activities provide hands-on digital skills and give the young people an initial insight into the basics of software development.
The partnership between the Seibert Foundation and the Smart City Department shares the common goal of strengthening digital education for children and young people in Wiesbaden and sparking an early interest in computer science and technology.
Maral Koohestanian, Head of the Digital Transformation Department, explains: “A digital city needs people who understand digital technologies and can help shape them themselves. That’s why we want to get young people excited about computer science and programming early on and support schools in teaching digital education in a hands-on way. The Code Week projects demonstrate how municipal commitment and partners from the local community can work together to make a difference.”
Nadja Sellinat, Executive Director of the Seibert Foundation, also emphasizes the value of this collaboration: “The partnership with the Smart City Department demonstrates how much can be achieved when nonprofit organizations and local government work together. Together, we reach schools and young people that we could not reach on this scale on our own—and together we promote digital education in Wiesbaden.”
Code Week is a Europe-wide initiative aimed at inspiring young people to take an interest in programming and digital technologies. Throughout Germany, numerous projects organized by schools, clubs, and institutions take place as part of this week of activities.
