Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Eva Menasse reads from “Alleinruhelage”

Eva Menasse served as curator of the Wiesbaden Literature Festival in 2019. Now she is returning to the capital of Hesse to present her new novel, *Alleinruhelage*, at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1. The author reading will take place on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for a video broadcast in an adjacent room are still available at the box office for 11 euros. Reservations for this event are not possible.

Literary critic Shirin Sojitrawalla (DLF and taz) will moderate the evening. The event is organized by the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine/Wiesbaden Cultural Office as part of Leseland Hessen, with support from the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture, the Sparkassen Cultural Foundation of Hesse-Thuringia, and hr2-kultur. Further information can be found at www.wiesbaden.de/literaturhaus (opens in a new tab).

In Austria, “Alleinruhelage” refers to properties in extreme seclusion. In her novel of the same name, Menasse has her first-person narrator come into contact with a vacation home; she addresses it and reflects on episodes from their shared life. With distinctive, insightful prose, the Austrian author and journalist reflects in her new novel on alienation and home, on goodbyes, and on how one actually manages to simply set out anew and start over in midlife.
