Working Together for a Healthier Wiesbaden: Residents Develop Ideas for Their Neighborhoods
How can loneliness be reduced, healthy eating promoted, and physical activity in everyday life encouraged? On Saturday, October 24, participants in three idea workshops organized by the “Mein gesundes Wiesbaden” project explored these questions.
Citizens, experts, and representatives of local organizations shared their experiences, identified needs, and jointly developed initial solutions. Based on this, a plan for future prevention efforts in Wiesbaden will be developed.
The project kicked off on Friday, October 23, with a launch event at WerkRaum Wiesbaden. The goal is to strengthen health promotion and prevention where people live: in their neighborhoods and communities.
Under the motto “Together, Not Alone,” participants in the Eigenheim neighborhood explored how to combat loneliness, foster social connections, and strengthen volunteer engagement.
At the Klarenthal Health Kiosk, the “Healthy Eating Locally” ideas workshop focused on how healthy eating, counseling, and social interaction can be better integrated into everyday life.
The “What Moves People” ideas workshop at the Biebrich Neighborhood Center focused on how to support physical activity, social interaction, and an active, self-determined life in old age.
In November, the results will be publicly presented and discussed in the respective neighborhoods. Anyone interested is invited to learn about the ideas developed and to engage in conversation with the participating experts. The series kicks off on Monday, November 9, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., with the closing event “Together, Not Alone” in the Horst-Hammerstein Hall, Johannes-Brahms-Straße 15. This will be followed on Tuesday, November 10, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., by “Healthy Eating Locally” at the Klarenthal Health Kiosk, Karl von Linde Straße 20. The results of “What Moves People” will be presented on Monday, November 16, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Biebrich Neighborhood Center, Rathausstraße 10. All dates and further information on the closing events can be found at: www.ein-gesundes-wiesbaden.de/stiftung/förderprojekte (opens in a new tab).
The approaches developed will be further refined. EGW – Gesellschaft für ein gesundes Wiesbaden mbH plans to coordinate and support the implementation of the resulting prevention concept in the coming years.
“My Healthy Wiesbaden” is a project of the Institute for Universal Design (IUD), EGW, and humaQ gGmbH as part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026. It is supported by local partners, including the Biebrich Neighborhood Center, the Volksbildungswerk Klarenthal, EVIM Eigenheim, and the Wiesbaden Public Health Department.
