From Idea to Light Fixture: Experience Metal Design Firsthand
How does a design concept become a lamp? What possibilities do modern techniques such as laser cutting and bending offer? On Wednesday, October 28, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at WerkRaum Wiesbaden, Langgasse 5–9, students from the State Academy of Fine Arts in Hanau will offer insights into the work of metal artists.
The “Workshow & Talk – dell(at)zeichenakademie” is part of the accompanying program for the special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Pitcher to Goldgasse” at the Stadtmuseum am Markt (sam). Admission is free. You can join at any time.
Under the theme “What Do Metal Artists Actually Do? Laser Cutting – Bending – Assembling,” the apprentices will present light objects created as a “tribute to Christian Dell,” as well as other lamps. They demonstrate how creative ideas can be translated into concrete designs and ultimately brought to life. Visitors are invited to get a close-up look at the works, ask questions, and engage in conversation with the aspiring metal artists.
The connection to the Hanau Academy of Art is no coincidence: Christian Dell (1893–1974), who later became a silversmith, designer, and Bauhaus teacher, completed significant parts of his training there. To this day, this time-honored institution continues to train silversmiths and metal artists.
The event complements the special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Pitcher to Goldgasse,” which can be seen at the City Museum through Sunday, November 15.
From Thursday, October 22, through Sunday, October 25, the “European Youth Circus” (EYC) arts festival will take place on the Dern’schen Gelände in Wiesbaden, directly in front of the City Museum. Upon presentation of an EYC admission ticket, visitors to the City Museum will receive discounted admission to the current special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Jug to Goldgasse” through Tuesday, October 27. Further information about the exhibition is available at wiesbaden.de/sam (opens in a new tab).
