Boil-water order remains in effect in parts of downtown Wiesbaden as a precaution
After a bacterial contamination of the drinking water with Pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected on Friday, September 25, in the immediate vicinity of the Wiesbaden Kurhaus, the water utility of the state capital of Wiesbaden initiated extensive further investigations.
It is not yet possible to make a final assessment of the situation. The next reliable test results are not expected until Wednesday, September 30, or Thursday, October 1. Until then, the precautionary boil-water advisory for the affected areas remains in effect.
The water utility continues to flush the pipes and conduct further sampling and testing. Based on the pending test results, a decision will then be made regarding the next steps and a possible phased lifting of the boil-water advisory. Therefore, a general all-clear for the affected areas cannot yet be issued.
To assess the extent of the affected areas, drinking water samples were additionally collected and analyzed on Friday, September 25, from a total of seven additional sampling points. The samples came from, among other areas, Marktplatz, Kirchgasse, Platter Straße, Langgasse, Friedrich-Ebert-Allee, Mississippistraße, and Flachstraße. The results of these samples showed no bacterial contamination. However, they pertain exclusively to the specific sampling sites tested and do not yet allow for a definitive assessment of the overall situation.
The Public Health Department remained available to residents throughout the weekend. It was able to respond to more than 100 telephone and written inquiries regarding the boil-water advisory and the current situation. The Public Health Department thanks the residents of Wiesbaden for their understanding and for complying with the precautionary measures.
Information on further developments and a possible lifting of the boil-water order will be provided in a timely manner.
