Blücherplatz: Public Participation in the Playground Redesign Begins
The playground at Blücherplatz in Wiesbaden’s Westend neighborhood is set to be redesigned. Children, families, and neighbors can share their ideas and suggestions starting Thursday, October 1. In addition to an online participation option, there will be an in-person event at the playground on Thursday, October 29.
Mayor Christiane Hinninger says: “Blücherplatz is an important gathering place in the densely populated Westend neighborhood. We want to design the playground so that it offers children a wide range of play options and takes into account the needs of families and the neighborhood. Local residents know best what’s missing there and what they’d like to see. That’s why we’re involving them in the planning process early on.”
The goal is an inclusive playground with play and physical activity options for children of different ages and with different abilities. In addition, the landscaping will be improved, and the newly installed playground equipment will be integrated into the new design wherever possible.
The Parks and Recreation Department, together with the Urban Development Corporation (SEG), the Department of Social Work, and the mitWIrken task force, is conducting a comprehensive public engagement process. All interested parties are invited to share their ideas and requests.
On Thursday, October 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., a public engagement event will take place directly at the Blücherplatz playground. Interested individuals can learn about the project on site, share their ideas, and speak with the participating specialist planners.
Children from nearby daycare centers and schools will also be asked, through their own participation formats, about their wishes and ideas for the new playground.
From Thursday, October 1, through Wednesday, November 4, suggestions and ideas can be submitted online via the public participation platform: www.wiesbadenwirkt.de/bluecherplatz (opens in a new tab).
Once the public participation period concludes, the collected ideas and suggestions will be evaluated and incorporated into further planning. Based on this, a design for the playground’s redesign will be developed. This design will also be presented on the participation platform at a later date.
The redesign is being carried out as part of the urban development program “Growth and Sustainable Renewal.”
